Fall 2025 Registration Update

Hello again diving friends -

After a very busy summer of NVSL diving and a bit of well-earned rest, the Nova Meteors are preparing for another exciting season of diving. We have some pretty big news to share, and we are now able to provide clear dates for Fall registration, session start, and class offerings. First the TLDR, news, then big picture plans, then details on our upcoming session.

Short Version w/Key Info (Too Long, Didn't Read)

Registration Opens September 1

Meet & Greet Zoom September 8

First Practice September 14

News

We are very proud of the way this program has grown so far, and it has been just great coaching this group of athletes. We are consciously keeping growth slow in an attempt to  ensure that we can provide your divers with an exceptional training experience. Admittedly, one area of failure has been in administrative discipline. To address this, we are pleased to announce that we will be bringing on a new team administrator to help Doug and Kenny coordinate practice schedules, serve as a liaison with facility administration, and most importantly ensure that registration processes are timely and well communicated. More news about this very soon, but it is reasonable to expect significant improvement in these areas in the coming year, starting immediately.

Big Picture Plans

This year we want to offer more competitive opportunities for the divers. Our competitive objective will be to train for and compete in the AAU Red White and Blue Qualifier meet in March or April (dates and locations TBD), and to qualify divers to the Red White and Blue Nationals on Memorial Day weekend (location also TBD). As soon as those locations are publicized we will let everyone know.

After Memorial Day we will shift to our summer schedule of programming, focused on NVSL and continued skill development.

Fall 2024 Session Program Desriptions

Basic Training Dryland

This is a 60 minute program designed to teach diving through tumbling, trampoline and dry diving board skill development. This is one of the fastest ways to improve your diving. By combining one day of in water and one day of dryland, divers can expect to see considerable improvement during a session.

Basic Training Dryland is offered Mondays and Wednesdays 430 - 530 pm at the GMU Aquatic Fitness Center (AFC)

Basic Training In-Water

This is a 60 minute program designed to teach age and skill appropriate diving technique from jumps to 1 1/2 somersaults in each direction, (front back inward and reverse.) This program is taught based on a well-established progression system, and all divers are expected to learn skills in the appropriate order without skipping steps.

Basic Training In-water is offered Tuesdays from 630-730 pm, and Sunday mornings from 830-930 am, 930 - 1030 am, or 1030-1130 am.

Nova Meteors Team Program

This INVITATION ONLY program teaches competitive diving on both the one-meter and three meter springboard with the express intention of preparing divers for National Competition and Collegiate consideration. Our training sessions are 90 minutes long, and we strongly recommend that divers over the age of 12 attend 3 practices per week.

Training for divers in the team program will be offered in dryland and in water sessions.

Dryland: Monday 530- 630 & 630 - 730 pm. Tuesday - Thursday 530 - 630pm.

In water: Tuesday and Thursday 630 -8 pm & 730 - 9 pm

**All Team Divers from our Spring and Summer 2025 sessions are invited back to register for our team programs.**

How Does My Diver Get Considered for Team?

As the program matures, we will consistently look at our Basic Training groups to identify potential team members. Consideration for team membership is more than just the demonstration of talent. Our coaching staff looks for athletes who are enthusiastic, motivated, and coachable. We are highly protective of our positive team environment, and we are thoughtful about bringing in new members. In addition, we have to be very careful not to overload our coaches. If lines behind the diving board are too long, it is difficult to improve.  Those who are interested in an invitation should look for Team Try-out events, to be offered in early September once the pool is available to us again. Stay tuned for more on those try-outs.

We can't wait to see the divers again at the pool in a few weeks!
